School-time fun with dinosaur silliness!
As an adult woman without children in her life, I rarely pick up children’s books or picture books. This book however has been all over the “Best Of” lists as of late, and I’ve heard nothing but praise from my friends with kids, so I figured it was worth a look.
It’s the first day of school for Penelope Rex, and she can’t wait to meet her classmates. But it’s hard to make human friends when they’re so darn delicious! That is, until Penelope gets a taste of her own medicine and finds she may not be at the top of the food chain after all. . . .
If there’s one word to describe this, I’d choose charming. The art is accessible, bright and fun and there’s some cute little details I loved, especially Penelope’s art of her eating a child. The book is an easy read, and I believe would be a bedtime hit as it has just the right amount of sentences vs single word emphasis. Also Walter the goldfish is a badass. I’m a grown-up and I laughed at this book, so I’m guessing it’d be a real winner with little ones. Totally deserving of all it’s praise!
