I would die to protect Will Byers.

I watched all three seasons of Stranger Things in 6 days. When I like something, I go in HARD. Hence my decision to pick up this graphic novel from the library. I adore the Netflix series and would die to protect Will Byers from any more harm, so this seemed like a good combination of my love and my job.

This whole graphic novel basically retells season one of the Netflix show Stranger Things, from the perspective of Will as he is trapped in the Upside Down. It shows how he managed to get there and how he survived as long as he did, as well as including flashbacks to his Dungeons and Dragons campaign with Mike, Dustin and Lucas that helps guide him through. There’s also bits of Eleven trying to help track him down, as well as how he sets up the communication system with his mother, Joyce.

There’s nothing super new or groundbreaking here, but it is fun to get Will’s perspective on his ordeal, since the show only covers what the other kids and Joyce are experiencing. If you like Stranger Things, you’ll probably enjoy this, but I don’t think it’s anything necessary to purchase. Check it out from the library, it’s short and fun and that’s good enough sometimes.
