Romance book clubs + powerful men = fun!

Gavin Scott is the romantic leading man in this romance novel, entirely about how bad Gavin is at being a romantic lead. Gavin’s marriage to his wife is falling apart and he’s recently found out she’s been faking orgasms. He freaks out, she snaps back, and now they’re on the road to divorce. Gavin is desperate to get Thea back and convince her he’s in this marriage and wants to improve himself, but he has no idea how to do so.

That’s where the Bromance Book Club comes in. Made up of the hottest men in Nashville, from sports stars to politicians, they get together and read romance novels in order to understand more about what their own relationships are lacking. At first, Gavin is skeptical, but as things keep falling further into disarray, he has no other choice but to trust the process.

I was skeptical of this book a the start as I wondered how they were going to incite conflict without making the reader immediately choose who was right and wrong, but I think it did a good job balancing the pros and cons of Thea and Gavin’s relationship. They love one another but he’s always gone and she is always left feeling lonely and cast aside by the other women around her. She has a terrible history with her father that has clouded her judgment regarding men and trust, and Gavin is so caught up in his baseball world, he doesn’t realize the deeper things going on with Thea. That being said, Thea is so ready for her trust to be shattered, she neglects to communicate with Gavin when things are wrong in order to give him time to fix them. There’s a lot of give and take between two people who are absolutely terrible at communication.

I found this to be a pretty fast read, and one of the things I loved about it was the lack of pointlessness. Every paragraph had a reason for being there, whether to further the plot or add some characterization and backstory to the characters. There wasn’t any pointless fluff that I had to skim through. The premise is also pretty fun and engaging and lends itself perfectly to continue on the series with different members of the book club.

Overall I was a big fan of this book and I’m excited to read the second installment asap.
