Easiest Review ever.

These books are my lifeblood. Some kids were super into Dear America or Babysitter’s Club or Goosebumps, and those are all amazing! But I was and always will be a ride or die Wayside School fan. Wayside School is like a child’s intro to David Lynch. It’s Twin Peaks for kids. Nothing makes sense and as a kid, it’s hilarious and odd and fun but man, PLEASE re-read these as an adult. They are so many types of fucked up it’s GREAT. The child who is buried under coats until everyone realizes he’s a rat? That’s some straight-up Tim Burton shit but better. The three Erics? How is that not a Seth Rogan movie already?

Every story in these is fantastic. It’s all so WEIRD and absurdist and every kid I know who was into these has grown up to be a chaotic bisexual and if that’s not a huge endorsement of a book I don’t know what is.
