Over My Dead Body

Teen dark academia!

If you are into the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Wednesday on Netflix, this graphic novel will be right up your alley. Over My Dead Body takes place in an atmospheric boarding school for young witches. Within the first pages, a student named Noreen goes missing, and we are introduced to her friend Abigail, who is deeply upset at Noreen’s disappearance. She teams up with fellow friends Goldie and Enver and her roommate Violet to try and find Noreen, as she thinks the administration isn’t doing enough to find her. Abigail is willing to do anything to find her friend, while the others are more trepidatious, which creates a divide between them.

This graphic novel’s art is so gorgeous that it makes me wish there was more to this series. It fits the ambiance and setting of the tale so beautifully and adds so much to the overall feel of the story. This is a fun, witchy adventure with a pretty simple storyline, but one I would have absolutely adored if I were in the intended age range. My only real gripe is the romance subplot, as I felt like the two girls didn’t have a lot of build before getting together, and it felt a bit out of place because it wasn’t developed as well as I would have liked. That said, it’s a fun read, perfect for the teenage witch in your life.
