The twists!
Holy hell, this volume really turned things up a notch!
While we have been following Moriarty through this whole series, we’ve learned more and more about the corruption in the government that he is taking a stand against. This comes front and center in Volume 10, as we are introduced to Adam Whiteley, a freedom fighter and member of the House of Commons. He’s a genuinely good man who is willing to do whatever it takes to gain a better life for the common people of Britain. In the process, Adam loses everything, and Moriarty steps in to offer him the most high-stakes choice: his future or his life. This volume has been one of the saddest situations since the series began, and I genuinely gasped at one point. It was heartbreaking and brilliantly done, and I’m now led to believe this series will turn things up a notch in the future.
I am really enjoying how this series is paced, as there always seems to be something new set up in each volume. We also see Sherlock, Mycroft, and Watson in this volume, setting up more storylines for the future. The drama has ramped up with each new character introduction, and I’m excited to see where we go here with the aftermath of the Whiteley situation, as well as the introduction of Mary. Looking forward to more!
