Hollow

60321106 Supernatural retelling. Hollow is a modern retelling of The Legend of Sleeping Hollow. Isabel Crane, known as Izzy, has just moved to Sleepy Hollow as her mother has taken a job as head chef of the local fancy restaurant. Izzy is an introverted, science and facts-based girl, so she’s not looking forward to making friends and socializing all that much. That being said, she’s shown around the school by resident himbo Croc Byun. Croc is basically a himbo football player stereotype, but he isn’t toxic or mean-spirited, just a teenage boy. Izzy also is introduced to the local town superstar Vicky Van Tassell, whose family has gone back generations and is central to the Sleepy Hollow Legend. Izzy develops a crush on Vicky, but Vicky doesn’t want anything to do with her, as she’s tired of having to give up everything she enjoys to live up to her family’s expectations. Suddenly, creepy things are happening around town, and Izzy, who doubts any of the legends she’s heard, is faced with something otherworldly. This was a pretty good novel! I liked the art quite a bit, and I found this to be relatively easy to follow. However, this book’s standout element is the central trio of Izzy, Croc, and Vicky. All three have distinct personalities and add something different to the journey to defeat the legend. I loved how they interacted; the slowly blooming romance between Izzy and Vicky was sweet. Overall this was a good read. I will remember nothing in a few weeks, but an enjoyable reading experience.
