Cute but a bit much

Himari is starting to realize that she and Yori have two very different things in mind when they talk about being in love, and Yori can tell that things aren’t quite the same between them since she asked Himari out. But if they want to stay together, whether as friends or something more, they’ll have to hear each other out and see if they can get back in harmony. With band practice cutting into their time together and Himari making a new friend who tugs on Yori’s deepest insecurities, both girls start to wonder: how can one little word make everything so complicated?

This is a cute, women-loving women-themed manga, which there aren’t enough of! Himari is a high school student who falls in love at first sight at school. She accompanies her friend to see her sister’s band perform, and Himari falls for the lead singer, Yori. Yori isn’t the actual lead singer, she’s just stepping in as a favor, but her voice blows Himari away. She falls for her immediately and makes it her mission to tell Yor she loves her. Yor, who is lonely and definitely closeted, is attracted to Himari and thinks she’s pretty cool, so when she admits her love to Yor, Yor reciprocates. However, Himari means love in the sense of admiration, whereas Yor is legitimately attracted to Himari.

This is a sweet setup with Himari, who is emotional and bombastic, trying to learn what certain emotions entail and how to navigate her growing attraction to another girl. In contrast, Yor, who is older yet less social, tries to learn to accept Himari for who she is and not always attach herself to one person. More tension comes from friends of them both, one who has a crush on Yor herself! This is a fun, sweet manga that anyone looking for a sugar-sweet LGBT romance would enjoy.
