A fever dream of fun.

This entire graphic novel is a goddamn fever dream. I can’t even properly tell you what happened through most of this because it was the most distracting graphic novel ever for my ADHD-riddled brain. That being said, it was a super fun read.

This is one of the gayest graphic novels I’ve ever read, and that is saying something. Grand Slam Romance is centered around Mickey Monsoon and her softball career as one of the best players in the game. That is, until her ex, Astra, returns to their area. Astra is a magical girl who can seduce everyone while being the prime mean girl. There’s tons of tension between the two and other romantic options being thrown in. It’s a fun read with many amusing side characters, vivid art, and more illusions to fingering than I’ve ever seen in a graphic novel, so I suppose that’s a win!

This was a perfect read for anyone looking for some queer magical girl neon craziness, and though I felt it tried a little too hard at times to fit that archetype, it’s still absolutely worth picking up.
