Yakuza Fiance V3

Yakuza Fiance remains just as messed up and dramatic as the first two volumes I read, which is, oddly, a pleasure to say! We’re still in the throes of Yoshino and Kirishima getting to know one another, despite having already given up a kidney and committed several crimes. Nothing brings a couple together like a criminal history! Yoshino is getting used to living in Tokyo, though she plans to return to Osaka for a mini break toward the end of the volume. Kirishima is getting more and more sociopathic but still finds himself confusingly in love with Yoshino, who calls him out on his jealousy toward the men she speaks to. Kirishima then tells Yoshino that he had never considered himself a jealous person before, but she is changing him in many ways. He then tells her that he’s fine with her dating other people since she’s not interested in him romantically, but he wants to watch her while she’s with other men. She calls out his bullshit as him being jealous, and Kirishima keeps realizing more and more that Yoshino is more than he bargained for.

The rest of the volume follows a bit more of the tropes we regularly see in a romance-themed manga, only with more bite. Yoshino gets sick, and Kirishima cares for her but doesn’t hold back from checking her scar while she’s sick to see if she really gave up a kidney or if that was an elaborate lie. We also meet Yoshino’s female cousin, who is just as bonkers as the rest of the characters in this series, and we get confirmation that Yoshino being in Tokyo is some type of secret plot masterminded by her grandfather. I have no idea what is going on, but holy shit, this series is so compelling and interesting I am absolutely along for the ride.
