A Business Proposal Vol. 2

An absolute joy to read

This is the second volume of the webtoon of which there is also a super popular Korean Drama. After friends told me this was also a K-Drama I checked it out, and turns out the TV series is actually better than this webtoon! Both are great, but the show cuts down on a lot of the unnecessary bits and gives me what I really want out of the series, which is more Sunghoon.

We’re back with Hari, our main character, who is pretending to be her friend Jin Young-seo, a wealthy woman who is tired of being set up on dates by her businessman father. Hari needs money to support her family after they fell upon hard times during the pandemic, and Youngseo is willing to pay her to pretend to be her and go on dates.

Hari agrees to the deal and ends up going on a date with the CEO of her company, Taemu Kang. She’s too low level of an employee for him to recognize, but she is anxious nonetheless. Taemu is tired of his family pushing him to marry and decides he will marry whoever he goes on a date with and falls for Hari, who he initially thinks is Youngseo.

In this second volume, we learn a little more about all of our characters, notably Taemu. We see how his friendship with Sunghoon develops as well as a bit about his relationship with his family. Also, Taemu starts to figure out that Hari isn’t who she says she is, but he thinks he likes her anyway. Taemu is a fun CEO character because he’s a bit of an emotionally compromised idiot, but he’s not a cruel or mean man. He’s trying to be the best he can by his family, so it doesn’t make the reader loathe him the way I do when I read most workplace/CEO romances. I love a good fake dating or fake marriage trope, and this is pretty close so I’ll take it. My only critique is we need more Youngseo and Sunghoon as they are clearly the superior adorable couple of the series.
