So many emotions

Volume 3 of Fangirl dives into a lot of the emotional trauma that exists in the regular novel of the same name. Cath is overwhelmed by all the changes in her life and immediately decides it’s not worth it, she wants to quit school to move home and take care of her dad. Her father rightly tells her she cannot give up her life for him just because he’s struggling with his mental health, as it’s clear to the reader that Cath is struggling as well. Cath is at odds with her writing partner, Nick, for using some of her ideas for the story he’s writing. Levi, the boy Cath has a crush on, was spotted kissing another girl, and that sent Cath into a spiral, and most importantly, Wren, her sister, is reuniting with their mother, who walked out of them a decade ago. This volume is full of angst, drama, and, more importantly, Cath learning how to navigate her feelings. Wren adapted to college and life without being constantly connected to Cath relatively quickly, but Cath cannot move on and build her own self-confidence. This is an excellent adaptation of the novel, as I feel like I dislike Cath as much as I do when I read the original book. I understand where she’s coming from and her arc as a character, but good lord, I see why she doesn’t have many friends; I don’t think I could be around someone like her for long without losing it the way Wren did. I also think this adaptation does a great job of picking great moments to end on, so the next volume ends up being more highly anticipated. Overall, this series is fantastic, and I’m a huge fan so far
